Oklahoma Employers Against Domestic Violence

The Community Learning Council, Inc. (CLC) found national statistical data which strongly supports the need in every community to educate employers of the tremendous obstacles victims of domestic violence experience related to his or her employment and job performance.  The purpose of this program is to:

  • Help employers identify and support victims of domestic violence in the workplace.
  • Provide internal and external support resources to victims of this crime.
  • Educate employers about potential revenue losses to the company.
  • Assist employers in the construction of a Domestic Violence in the Workplace policy.

Oklahoma Employers Against Domestic Violence is facilitated by CLC
educators and domestic violence professionals in workshops offered to our
State’s employers. Many in our communities and organizations still view domestic violence as a family secret, but according to Oklahoma law
it is a CRIME.

Program Goals:

To develop a working relationship between advocates to end domestic violence and Oklahoma employers provide a safe working environment, not only to those suffering from domestic violence, but all employees.

Presentations, discussions, and exercises provide valuable information to Oklahoma employers on how to respond to the needs of victims and provide resources and information on how and where to seek help.

Program Objectives:

  • Inform HR professionals, department managers/supervisors of the employee’s legal rights if he/she is a victim of domestic violence.
  • Assist HR professionals, departments managers/supervisors in the construction of an employee-friendly policy to help stop and protect victims of domestic violence in the workplace.
  • Outline the negative outcomes (e.g. absenteeism and termination of the abused employee which sometimes leads to loss of income necessary for survivors and his/her children, reduced social interaction, decreased opportunities for promotion/advancement) that victims of domestic violence encounter at work.
  • Educate HR professionals, managers/supervisors on the direct and indirect costs of domestic violence in the workplace (e.g. lost revenue, decreased productivity and workplace safety).

In order to empower victims of this crime, work is essential because it allows for financial stability, social integration and the overall health and welfare of the victims, their children and our community as a whole.
